
By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 8: Tip Top Help Nepal is on brink of title as the defending champions fixed the final date with Gandaki Province in men’s section at the 8th PM Cup: NVA Volleyball League. The battle between Everest Volleyball Club and Nepal Police Club will decide the champions in women’s section.
The league stage of the league concluded on Friday with Tip Top and Gandaki occupying first and second position respectively in men’s category and Everest and Police finishing at top two spots in women’s league standings.
According to the tournament fixtures, the top teams from the league will play in the final for the Cup on Saturday. Gandaki reigned top of the league with 20 points as the only unbeaten men’s team after defeating Nepal Police by 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.
Help Nepal finished second in the table with 19 points following its sixth win in seven matches. Title holder eased past Army in straight three sets with the score of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-21.
Meanwhile, Army ended their league stage with four wins in seven matches and finished fourth in the table with 12 points. Army will take on Police with for the third place playoff match. Police stood at third place in the league table with 14 points.
On women’s side, Nepal Police lost the final league match against Everest; however, Police had enough points to finish second in the table. However, both the team advanced to the final to set up the rematch on Saturday.
Similarly, Nepal APF Club and Tribhuwan Army Club will play for the third and fourth spots.
Of the five matches each played by the six women’s teams in the tournament, Everest has remained undefeated and topped the table with 14 points. With 11 points Police trailed at second place in the league standings.
Police won four of the five matches, APF won three and Army won two. While Chandragiri won only one match, Karnali ended their campaign winless.
APF defeated Army and Everest defeated Police. APF won three regular sets (25-19, 25-10 and 25-18) against Army while the match between Everest and Police was played till the fourth set.
Everest lost the second set to Police by 24-26 but won the other sets (25-20, 25-20 and 25-19).
