Feasibility study on Yari dry port being conducted

By Rajan Rawat Humla, June 8: A technical team from Kathmandu has begun conducting the feasibility study for the construction of a dry port at Yari, Namkha Rural Municipality-5.

Chief District Officer Sita Pariyar informed that the study had started in Yari, which lies near the border with China. For this, the Ministry of

Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) had selected the company MS Card Consult Limited as the consulting firm.

Pariyar said that the company sent two experts, engineer Santosh Khadka and surveyor Chiranjeevi Acharya, to Humla to conduct the on-site study.

Khadka said that the topography of the port construction site would be studied. Similarly, structure, nature, drinking water, electricity, road network and social makeup of the area will also be studied, he said. Also, since Yari is located at an altitude of 4,400 metres, snow occurrence conditions will also be studied.

Khadka said that the port would benefit the Karnali, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces commercially and strategically and would allow for the export of the region’s medicinal herbs, fruits, vegetables and timber.

The team will also travel to Hilsa.

The two will stay in Humla for nine days and produce a field report which it will submit to the MoICS within next month.

The report will open the way for the ministry to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).

Karnali Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi had asked the government to construct the Yari dry port nine years ago.The Rising Nepal
