india : Deepawali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated across the country on Sunday, October 27th, but there are three villages in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh where the people have not celebrated Deepawali for the past 25 years.
The Yadavs of Odha gotra living in the village Saimla Gunnaur, Makhdumpur and Haduda in the Gunnaur area of the Sambhal district do not celebrate Diwali. In these three villages, the people of Odha gotra neither illuminate their homes nor perform any kind of pujas on the day of Diwali. The villagers stated that due to Udayvir Singh’s death, a resident of the village who died about 25 years ago, the people of these three villages stopped celebrating the festival of Deepawali. This tradition, which has been in existence for years, continues to this day. The youth of the village stated that the people worship the Govardhan methodically on the second day of Deepawali.siliguritimes/from
