West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s younger brother passed away on Saturday morning due to COVID-19.

Medica Superpeciality Chairman, Dr. Alok Roy informed that Mamata Banerjee’s younger brother Ashim Banerjee passed away today at the hospital. He had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment.

According to family sources, the last rites of Bandhopadhay will be performed as per the Covid-19 protocols.
COVID-19 second wave: West Bengal Govt extends lockdown till May 30

With the increasing number of coronavirus cases, the West Bengal government on Saturday extended the lockdown in the state till May 30.

Here’s what’s allowed and what’s not during the lockdown period:

1. All schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres will remain closed.
2. All government and private offices and establishments shall remain closed.
3. Essential emergency services will be allowed to function.
4. Shopping complexes, malls, restaurants, salons, gyms, swimming pools will remain closed.
5. Retail shops to remain open only till 7 am till 10 am.
6. Sweets and meat shops allowed to remain open from 10 am to 5 pm.
7. Medical shops and optical shops will remain open as usual.
8. Parks and zoos will remain closed.
9. Metro services closed, local trains and buses will remain closed except for emergency essential service personnel.
10. Private cars, taxis excused from emergency essential services.
11. Metro services will operate only for those who are engaged in emergency services.
12. Goods carrier to remain suspended except for medical and food services.
13. All political, entertainment, cultural, religious gathering prohibited.
14. All industries and manufacturing units will remain closed except for food and medical supplies and medical packaging services.

Siliguri, 15th May: To prevent the spread of the deadly virus, the Madani Bazar was sanitized on behalf of the Dabgram Fulbari Block Trinamool Yuva Congress, on Saturday.

It has been learned that this work commenced today under the initiative of Gautam Saha, General Secretary of Dabgram-Fulbari Yuva Trinamool Congress. Every shop in the market was sanitized during the process.

In this regard, Biswajit Bhowmik on behalf of the Dabgram-Fulbari Yuva Trinamool Congress said that the work of area-based sanitation has started from today on the initiative of Gautam Saha, General Secretary of Dabgram Fulbari Yuva Trinamool Congress. He assured that they will help the common people in this pandemic situation.
Illicit raw spirit recovered in Fulbari, one arrested

Siliguri, 15th May: The NJP police, based on a tip-off, launched operations in Fulbari and seized 37 drums (7400 liters) of illicit raw spirit from a truck, on Friday. The driver and owner of the vehicle Krishna Das was arrested in the incident. He is a resident of Sundarbans.

According to police sources, the spirit was being transported from Assam to Bihar. The market value of the recovered spirit is around 18 lakh rupees. The arrested individual was sent to Jalpaiguri court on Saturday.siliguritimes/from,india
