Nepali Member of Parliament Gyanendra Shahi has publicly praised the growing popularity of the “Roshan Shrestha” mobile application, developed by investigative journalist Roshan Shrestha. The app has recently gained nationwide attention for becoming one of the top-ranked news platforms in Nepal’s digital space.
In a Facebook post dated June 21, 2025, MP Shahi referred to Roshan Shrestha as a dedicated investigative journalist and congratulated him for building what he described as Nepal’s leading news app by downloads and user engagement.
The recognition came at a time when the Roshan Shrestha App surpassed 100,000 downloads on the Google Play Store. It currently holds over 10,500 user reviews, with the vast majority being five-star ratings—making it the highest-rated news app in the country.
The application integrates more than 24 features, including local news coverage, public service tools, access to visa status, and learning resources for digital careers through platforms like YouTube and Facebook. Its success reflects the growing role of independent digital tools in transforming Nepal’s media landscape.
The post by MP Shahi quickly garnered over 23,000 reactions and hundreds of comments, indicating the growing acceptance of citizen-driven media in Nepal.
Roshan Shrestha, who leads the independent news platform Khoj Samachar, is widely known for his work in civic journalism, digital awareness, and app-based information access.
