People crowd in Siliguri Sevoke Road amid lockdown 

Siliguri, 11th May: Despite repeated reminders to stay indoors, several people were sighted crowding the Siliguri Sevoke Road area, deliberately breaching the lockdown restrictions.

Although all the shops in the said area were shut down, several two-wheelers and four-wheelers were spotted parked at the roadside.

As of now, confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stand at 67,152 and death toll at 2,200.

Kaliyaganj Municipality initiates sanitization measures in the city amid pandemic

Kaliyaganj, 11th May: Under the initiative of the Kaliyaganj Municipality and the assistance of the Fire Brigade, special sanitization measures commenced in the city’s market areas and various other parts to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

In this context, disinfectants and sanitizers were sprayed in Netaji Subhash Road, Mahendraganj Bazar, Hospital Para, various shops in the market premises, and the State Highways, in the presence of Mayor Kartik Chandra Pal.

Pal stated that such an initiative has been taken to further contain the spread of the deadly virus. The citizens highly praised the initiative taken.
Food provided to the hungry laborers on their journey back home in Fulbari

Siliguri, 11th May: With no means of earning a living, several migrant laborers, including women and children, set off on a long walk back to their homes in Cooch Behar and Assam.

Considering the plight of these workers, Safiur Rahman and many other voluntary organizations stepped forward to help them. Upon spotting many laborers taking rest at the Fulbari roadside on Monday morning, Rahman and many other social activists distributed food items among them.

DYFI submits an 8-point memorandum to Islampur SDO

Islampur, 11th May: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) members submitted an 8-point memorandum to the Islampur SDO in support of various demands.

Through the memorandum, the DYFI members urged the government to initiate the process of bringing the stranded laborers back to the state and launch a district-based effective helpdesk in this regard.
