Darjeeling District TMC President Ranjan Sarkar inspected various ration shops in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st May: Based on various allegations of corruption against ration shop owners, the Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress President Ranjan Sarkar, on Friday, inspected the ration shops in various wards of Siliguri and interacted with the ration dealers and the locals.

As per the report, he inspected the current scene of ration supply in various shops and checked whether the common people are receiving ration in adequate quantities or not.

Siliguri toto driver struggles to make ends meet, finds an alternative way to earn amid the lockdown


Siliguri, 01st May: The hardest hit by the nation-wide lockdown are the poor, daily wagers, and the homeless. Most of them are facing severe economic challenges during the lockdown as they are hardly left with any money to support their livelihoods.

Since all work has been suspended due to the ongoing lockdown, Ravi Barman, an e-rickshaw (toto) driver and a resident of Siliguri’s Ward No. 18 was struggling to earn his living. Since Barman does not own a toto of his own, he found an alternative solution to make few penny.

The toto driver is spotted selling vegetables near the College Para area every day. Barman stated that the alternative taken does not help him earn enough to feed his family in such a crisis, however, he might continue to run the small business after the COVID-19 lockdown too.
Police bust 2 youths on charges of robbing a residence in Siliguri

Siliguri, 01st May: Two men charged with robbery have been arrested by the NJP police. The arrested accused have been identified as Pradip Karmakar (18) and Habu Ghosh (22).

As per the reports, a burglary took place at the residence of Sushil Sarkar in the Thakur Nagar area, last Wednesday. The thieves had fled away with precious idols and worship materials from the house.

The incident was reported at the NJP police station the next day. Based on the complaint, the NJP police launched an operation and arrested both the accused from the Thakur Nagar and Bhola More area. The stolen items were recovered from the house of accused Pradip Karmakar.

The arrested accused individuals were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday.

Locals stage protest in Siliguri over ration supply amid lockdown

Siliguri, 01st May: Following the government guidelines, the second phase distribution of ration items commenced at the ration shops on Friday. However, allegations of corruption have surfaced against various ration shop owners, who are being accused of hoarding commodities and then selling them in the black market.

Several customers, on Friday, accused Ranidanga No. 5 ration dealer Ajit Kumar Ghosh of corruption and also exposed the huge scam being carried out in ration supply.

Condemning the shortage of essential commodities, the consumers staged a protest on Friday and complained that ration was given to them in fewer quantities ignoring the government instructions.

On the other hand, ration dealer Ajit Kumar Ghosh denied all the allegations.siliguritimes/from,india
