Mechinagar. Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, has said that even though the relevant parties are making tireless efforts to control revenue leakage, open border is the main challenge.
He said this while being the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 72nd International Customs Day organized by the Mechi Customs Office on Friday.
“In order to prevent loss of revenue, a state-of-the-art system has been implemented in customs,” said Bastola, who is also the district chairman of the Revenue Leakage Control Committee, “However, control efforts have not been effective with the district’s 144 km open border.”
Mentioning that in the traditional import-based economy, the main source of revenue has been the customs until now, he said that Mechi Customs has become export-oriented rather than import-oriented.
Bastola stressed on the need to focus on creating an environment that would benefit the businessmen and not to scatter the revenue, and said that there is no alternative for all parties to be responsible for the promotion of the country’s revenue.
