Night-time traffic banned on Kaligandaki corridor

By Ramesh Bishwakarma, Gulmi, June 30: The District Administration Office, Gulmi, has imposed a night-time ban on vehicular movement along a section of the Kaligandaki Corridor following the onset of the monsoon and the increased risk of floods and landslides.

The administration said the restriction has been introduced to minimise the risk of accidents as heavy rainfall and flood-related alerts continue to be issued across the region.

According to the District Administration Office, landslides are occurring daily along several sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor, while rocks continue to fall even during dry weather. The risk is particularly high at night, prompting the District Security Committee to make the decision at its meeting on Monday.

Chief District Officer Badrinath Gaire said the restriction comes into effect from Monday and will remain in force throughout the monsoon season. Under the order, all vehicular movement will be prohibited between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am on the stretch from Harmichaur (Mirmi junction) in Ward No. 1 of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Gulmi, to Dhus, the border point between Gulmi and Baglung districts.

The administration has also urged motorists and the public to exercise extreme caution while travelling on the road outside the restricted hours, given the continuing risk of landslides and falling rocks.

Travellers have been advised to seek immediate assistance in the event of an emergency by calling the Disaster Response Hotline (1149), Nepal Police (100), the Armed Police Force Nepal (1114), or contacting the nearest police office.
