
By Keshav Raj Bhatta, Baitadi, Sept. 17: Twenty persons were injured when an electric vehicle (EV) met with an accident at Budhakaphal in Melauli Municipality-1 of Baitadi on Tuesday evening.
Four of the injured are said to be in critical condition, police said.
The accident occurred near the Domestic Building along the Melauli-Ugratara road section at around 6:30 pm.
The EV, bearing registration number Sudurpaschim Province 02-001 J 630, was travelling from Melauli in Melauli Municipality-1 towards Jhusil Bazaar in the same ward when it went out of control and crashed, according to the District Police Office, Baitadi.
Those injured in the accident have been identified as Ankit Negi, 7; Ansu Negi, 5; Saraswati Negi, 30; Laxmi Negi, 27; Saru Parki, 33; Chadani Parki, 25; Janaki Pujara, 34; Ramesh Pujara, 12; Reshma Pujara, 15; Hazari Pokhrel, 65; Mahendra Pujara, 42; Kamala Damai, 10; Gagan Chand, 65; driver Man Singh Nayak, 30; Alok Chand, 5; Anjana Kumari Negi, 12; and Madhuri Nayak, 12, all from Melauli Municipality-1.
Similarly, Naresh Thagunna, 19; Dinesh Thagunna, 18; and Sagar Thagunna, 18, of Patan Municipality-7, were also injured.
Police said Ankit Negi, Ansu Negi, Saru Parki and Janaki Pujara sustained serious injuries.
Thirteen of the injured were referred to Dadeldhura Hospital for further treatment after receiving primary treatment at Kesharpur Primary Health Centre in Melauli.
The remaining seven were discharged after treatment at the Melauli Primary Health Centre, police said.
Local residents and police personnel immediately rescued the injured and took them to the health centre for treatment.
Police said further investigation was under way to determine the cause of the accident.
