Six new releases hit screens on Friday

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 14: Nepali cinema houses are screening a mix of Nepali, Bollywood, and Hollywood films. This Friday alone, three Nepali films, two Bollywood films, and one Hollywood film were released.

Shivansh: Chapter 1, Bigul, Shree Bukuro, the Bollywood films O Romeo and Tu Yaa Main, and the Hollywood film Wuthering Heights have all opened in Nepali cinemas.

Targeting the Mahashivaratri festival, Shivansh: Chapter 1 depicts the story of individuals involved in criminal activities under the guise of religion. The story draws inspiration from Hindu mythology, especially the episode of Samudra Manthan (the churning of the ocean). The plot focuses on the quest for a powerful stone said to have emerged during the ocean’s churning. The film’s main attraction is the ups and downs in the life of a spiritually inclined yet mysterious Aghori character.

The film features Prabin Khatiwada, Tej Giri, Bimala Limbu, and Rusha Neupane in significant roles, supported by Bikash Joshi, Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary, Sabir Churaute, Uday Kumar Subba, Tika Niraula, among others. It is directed by Santosh Kumar Atreya, with the story penned by Anjan KC and the screenplay by Barat Limbu. Similarly, Bigul, directed by Ramesh Koirala, stars Benisha Hamal and Naren Khadka in lead roles. Based on a contemporary political theme, the film is described as a political drama. Shree Bukuro, written and directed by Sudip Bhupal Singh, features Laxmi Giri, Ashirbad Chhetri, and Nikita Acharya in prominent roles. It revolves around a family-oriented storyline. O Romeo is a Hindi-language Bollywood film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri in leading roles.

Tu Yaa Main, another recent Hindi release, is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and features Adarsh Gourav and Sanya Kapoor; it is a romantic thriller.

Likewise, Wuthering Heights is a period romantic drama film written and directed by Emerald Fennell, loosely adapted from Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel. It stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, respectively. Additionally, other films currently showing in Nepali cinemas include Aa Bata Aama, released on January 30; Rammita Ko Pirati, released on February 6; and Kumari, also released on February 6.
