Riot in Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home, police and RAF deployed

Jalpaiguri, 18th April: In an unusual turn of events, on Saturday, the inmates of Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home ignited a clash demanding they be released on bail immediately.

As per the report, some inmates on Saturday insisted on being released on bail. When the authorities refused to accept their demand, the inmates grew violent and started a riot. The prisoners allegedly attacked the jail officials with bricks and also pelted stones when they were asked to maintain government guidelines of maintaining social distance inside the prison. Deployment of police and RAF at the right moment contained the issue to some extent.

The Jalpaiguri Superintendent of Police Abhishek Modi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Srikanta Jagannatharao Elwad, IC of Kotwali Police station Biswas Roy Sarkar, DSP Headquarters Pradeep Sarkar reached the spot immediately.

Darjeeling District DM S. Ponnambalam and Police Commissioner Tripurari Arthav inspected NBMCH amid lockdown

Siliguri, 18th April: In view of the COVID-19 outbreak, the newly appointed District Magistrate (DM) of Darjeeling District S. Ponnambalam and the Police Commissioner Tripurari Arthav inspected the North Bengal Medical College-Hospital on Saturday.

The DM, along with the hospital Superintendent Kaushik Samajdar, Principal Prabir Kumar Deb, Hospital Dean, doctors and the police officials inspected various aspects of NBMCH to ensure whether the hospital is providing proper medical facilities or not to deal with the pandemic.

As per the report, the DM also held a meeting near the Principal’s office by maintaining social distance. The current situation was discussed during the meeting

Rajganj man finds dust and sandstones filled inside an LPG Gas cylinder

Rajganj, 18th April: Sensation prevailed after 6 kgs of dust and sandstones were found inside an LPG gas cylinder in the Rajganj Kayetgachh area on Saturday.

A local named Ramesh Roy stated that he received an LPG gas cylinder 12 days ago under the PM Ujjwala Yojana scheme. On Friday, after having doubts that the cylinder might be empty, he weighed it and was shocked to see that the cylinder weighed 21 kgs, which is far more than the usual weight of an empty cylinder i.e. 15 kgs.

Roy, then with the help of his neighbors opened the cylinder and was startled to find dust and sandstones inside it. The incident created a stir in the area. Upon receiving the news, the local Panchayat member Hajrat Mohammad stated that the matter will be reported to the BDO.

On the other hand, upon questioning the delivery man Dipankar Roy, he stated that he has been completely unaware of the matter. He further added that the issue has been reported to the Distributor.siliguritimes/from,india
