Kathmandu, Sept. 21: Ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has drawn the government’s attention to the need for the prompt DNA testing of Bhotekoshi flood victims whose bodies remain unidentified, and for expediting the legal process to issue death certificates, with family consent, for those missing and presumed dead.
RSP secretariat meeting held at its party’s central office on Sunday also urged the government to rapidly provide relief to the flood victims. RSP spokesperson Jagadish Kharel said that the party also decided to resume all activities that had been suspended due to the disaster.
Key demands made to the government include conducting immediate DNA testing of unidentified bodies recovered from the Bhotekoshi flood and, for missing persons, expediting legal procedures with family consent to issue death certificates, thereby enabling the provision of relief and benefits to the affected families. It was decided to immediately move forward with organisational programmes that had been halted due to the disaster, including the ‘Hami Sunchhau’ (We Listen) campaign, the ‘Citizen Policy and Leadership’ campaign, and the candidate selection process for the local level.
During the meeting, members have also been nominated to the party’s Central Disciplinary Commission, the International Relations Department, and the Public Service Department.
Party vice-president and Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle briefed the attendees on his recent visit to India and matters concerning economic diplomacy. Similarly, policy directives and suggestions were offered to the Prime Minister and the delegation traveling to the United Nations General Assembly, urging them to focus on the Bhotekoshi disaster, the evolving situation, and Nepal’s role on the international stage.
RSP joint general secretary Hari Dhakal has presented a preliminary report on the organisational status and performance audit of Madhesh Province to the meeting; the party has stated that further strategies will be formulated following the submission of the detailed report.
The secretariat meeting also issued policy directives to Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal regarding preparations for the United Nations General Assembly.
Policy directives have been issued to the delegation, comprising the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, and others attending the UN General Assembly, to focus their address on the multidimensional aspects of the Bhotekoshi disaster, it said.
