
Mechinagar. 33,000 children in Mechinagar municipality of Jhapa will be vaccinated against measles and rubella from February 20th to 29th.
The health branch of the city informed through a press conference that 33,000 children between the ages of 9 months and 15 years will be vaccinated.
Savita Sapkota, head of the health branch, informed that in order to make the vaccination campaign effective, the work of informing the students of the schools in the municipality area, sending invitation letters to the parents to get their children vaccinated, discussing with the school teachers, village committee chairpersons etc.
According to branch chief Sapkota, she has also requested civil society, teachers, political parties, organizations and media persons to make the vaccination campaign a success.
In the event, Homanath Bhandari, acting head of the municipality, said that earlier in 2018, the measles disease had been brought under control, but in 2023, after it became an epidemic in many districts, the government again launched a vaccination campaign. He informed that the goal of the government is to eradicate measles-rubella by 2026.
The campaign will be conducted from February 20th to 29th through 106 schools, health branches and vaccination centers in all the fifteen wards of the city. The campaign aims to include children who miss out on regular vaccinations.
