Journalists contribute to enhancing Nepal-Russia relations: Rakshaev

Kathmandu, April 15: Rinchen R. Rakshaev, Charge D’Affaires of the Russian Embassy here, has said that the media have played an important role in promoting Russia-Nepal relations.

“In today’s complex and rapidly changing global information environment, the role of journalists is more important than ever – particularly when it comes to boosting the traditionally friendly relations between nations,” Rakshaev said at a function organised to mark the new Nepali Year in Kathmandu on Monday.

Nepal and Russia are observing the 70th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations this year. They opened formal diplomatic relations on July 20, 1956.

The Russian diplomat noted that journalists’ work helped Russia-Nepal relations to be reflected accurately, free from distortion and grounded in facts, thereby contributing to mutual trust and respect. “As for the future, your impartial coverage and consideration of Russia as a reliable and important partner will lay a solid foundation for our joint efforts and will serve the interests of the people of Nepal.”

Rakshaev said that the two nations had opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation between our countries – built on the friendship of our peoples, good traditions, and rich accumulated experience – in key sectors for Nepal: energy, fertiliser supplies and tourism.

Journalists representing various media outlets attended the programme.
