By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, June,20: The government has launched a service allowing citizens to download their National Identity Card on their own.
The Department of National ID and Civil Registration began the service on a trial basis from Thursday.
Through the Department’s official National Identity Card website, individuals will be able to download a digital version of their identity card, which includes their photograph and an online verification QR code.
The initiative is part of the government’s 100-point agenda on governance reform, specifically point number 2, which aims to develop a system enabling citizens to download their National Identity Card with a photograph and QR code directly from the department’s platform.
Citizens who have already obtained a National Identity Number can download their card by submitting their name (in Nepali or English), date of birth, and citizenship issuance date, Kamal Prasad Pandey, Director of the National ID section, said.
The Department has also requested all public bodies and institutions to verify identity using the QR code on the digital card, instead of relying solely on printed copies of National Identity Number slips. Officials can scan the QR code to confirm details and cross-check them with the information presented by service seekers.
