GANGTOK: The north district administration did not face any major challenges to enforce the lockdown and restriction, reason being cooperation from the public and sharing no inter-State borders.
In a relatively comfortable position amid Covid-19 scare as compared to other districts, North District Collector Tenzing T. Kaleon told SIKKIM EXPRESS there is already a natural social distancing due to low population and police authority are enforcing it in a strict manner and public are also abiding to it.
On issues of migrant workers, the DC informed that the government relief package of ration has been distributed to around 2,000 such migrants and other needy people in the district. Also two vehicles have been identified for each GPU to cater to the medical and essential needs of the people.
At least 365 people have travel history are in home quarantine in the district while the isolation centre at the Mangan-based district hospital has 5-10 beds to handle Covid-19 cases if any. Adequate PPEs and masks were said to be available in the district and the CMO has been asked to conduct mock tests so that such situation can be dealt with effectively, the DC shared.
It was informed that the district administration has requested the State government to identify suitable places for quarantine facility once those stranded outside the State returns home. The only quarantine facility now can accommodate up to 60 persons but only five beds have been arranged so far.
Asked on the hardships faced by the people of Upper Dzongu, the DC shared that the area was cut-off due to rising river water level few days back. However, a suspension bridge and ropeway system is functional to reach out to the people, he added.sikkimexpress/from,india
